Trying to find good golf courses and accommodation for a trip to Myrtle Beach?

4 of us are planning a trip in April. We are all good golfers (+3 to 9 handicap). We are looking to play 3/4 rounds of golf on good courses and enjoy a nice local hotel or some sort of accommodation. I don’t really know where to start looking online. Appreciate any recommendations….

I make 1-2 trips to MB a year (once in the spring and most years I play the WorldAm the week of Labour Day) via auto from Toronto.

April is typically high season as far as golf so expect courses to be priced accordingly.

Courses:

-Everyone and their mother has their own favourites. The two "musts" would be True Blue (my favourite) and Dunes Club (MB National, TPC, Legends Resort, and Pawleys Plantation are also on most folks’ top tier).
-If you go through any wholesaler/travel companies, find out what courses they put you on.
-There are numerous MB Golf blogs and websites that review and rate courses. Take reviews for what they are.
-Just assume that a majority of the other golfers will be unfamiliar with the courses. By that, you can safely assume you won’t be getting around in 3 1/2 hours.

Lodging:

-Traffic can be brutal at times…consider this when picking a place to stay and courses. Some of the courses on the Grand Strand are actually in North Carolina…give yourself plenty of time to get up and back.
-If it’s four of you, I’d recommend you consider a condo rental. You’ll have a lot more space, plus the added value of a furnished kitchen, etc. There are numerous condo rental outfits that can assist (I have a contact who I barter with for my April trip). Plus you’ve got space should a poker game break out.
-There are plenty of chain hotels (your Marriott, Hilton, Holiday Inn, etc.) in the area, but consider location relative to where you want to play. Anything on the beach in the main downtown area- give yourself more time to get to the courses.
-Barefoot Landing has a ton of lodging opportunity, several courses close by, and a couple bars if you’re in the mood for being social (not an endorsement, but it is fairly convenient).

Travel:

-Flights in to MB can be expensive (especially if you’re paying baggage fees for clubs), and the car rental folks will upcharge for SUV’s and minivans. Just factor that in.

There are several "dens of iniquity" in the area if ballet theatre avec the pole is your thing.

Either way, it’s a great time and plenty of the courses are more than enough challenge, even for + handicappers.

Is there a way to buy cleats/spikes and make your own golf shoes?

I was wondering if you can buy a golf spikes and put them into your own shoes? I have some old vans that I would like to use.

Thanks. Anything helps.
Ok thanks just wondering..

Wow imagine if Vans made Golf Shoes and tiger wore them.. everybody 25yr old and under would have them.

they sell kits to convert any pair of shoes to Golf shoes

the spikes use a combination of epoxy and a tiny corkscrew that is screwed into the bottom of the shoe.

Golf clothing help????

I am getting into the sport and I have been wearing a tennis skirt. I love the look and feel of golf and tennis clothes. They are comfy playing the game. Any suggestions where to get some cheaper. I have found most skirts between $50 and $70. And shirts are high too…. But I like the thin-ness and breathability of them…

HELP!!

Where can I find affordable, name brand, golf clubs and bags online?

I have a set of cleveland TA5 irons I recently purchased on Ebay, and am looking to find more quality Golf Clubs (woods, driver) and a bag. I dont mind buying used, and am hoping you guys can help!

Thanks!

Zach Riggs

Don’t roam too far from where you got those TA5′s. I always look to ebay when looking for Golf equipment. However, there are some alternatives:

globalgolf.com
gppgolf.com
rockbottomgolf.com

How much does it cost to get golf clubs re-gripped?

I have a whole set of Prince Golf Clubs and have been using them steady for a while. The grips that I have on now are starting to rub off onto my glove, and I think they are at least 5 years old.

I really want some new grips, and I want to get it done professionally at a Golf shop. ( Example: Nevada Bob’s)

How much would it cost to get all of my clubs done? I would say that there are 12 clubs including my putter.

Just a rough estimate would be great!

It will likely be $3-$5 per grip plus the cost of grips. I re-grip my own clubs at a fraction of the cost. The money I save will pay for a round of golf. All you need is a utility knife to remove the grips, regripping tape ( you can buy pre-cut strips at golf galaxy or a roll at golfsmith for $5-$10), and odorless mineral spirits (available at your local hardware store for around $5). You can purchase the solution at golfgalaxy or golfsmith, but it costs more.

If you care to try it, take a look at YouTube and search for re-gripping golf clubs. There are some good visual tutorials to learn from. At 12 clubs, it will likely take you a few hours to do.

What website can i go to, to buy golf personalized golf balls?

I am looking for a website where i can upload a picture of my father and put it on a Golf ball. I thought it would be a cool gift to give him a few dozen Golf Balls with his face on them. Any ideas?

I’d suggest http://www.ziplinegolf.com/ for personalized golf balls.
